A Guide to Wood Science

The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. Materials properties, ease of it being worked on and its value are among the few properties which are compared against those of wood and other materials. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. Once a tree has been cut down another can be planted in the same spot. All the parts of wood can be put into use, and this makes it a better fit than other materials which most of their byproducts are a waste.

For your wooden products and house to stay for long and have a good appearance it needs to be protected. The biggest threat to wood being moisture and insects has to be kept away from the wood. The moisture courses the timber to decay and the insects eat through the wood. Alkaline copper Quaternary or the ACQ has turned out to be a very effective way wood preservation. The protection of from this chemical is based on copper. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. The chemical is highly corrosive to most metals, the chemical corrodes away galvanized fasteners and therefore only stainless steel is used. The concentration of the chemical that will be used to treat a piece of wood will depend on the where it is going to be used and the molecular structure of the wood. The level of chemical concentration will be determined by where the piece of wood is going to be put to use.

Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. The copper metal is applied to the wood as small microscopic particles injected into the wood at high pressure. In other copper-based preservation methods copper is dissolved in chemicals while in this method copper is driven into the wood as a metal. This process is highly effective and the wood properties and heightened. The timber treated in this way is used in both outdoor and indoor frames that last very long.

Termites and fungal decay are just a few among the many problems wood treated from this method are protected against. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
